Dance On Screen AWARDS 2021

The jury of the 5th edition of Dance On Screen – MELANIE SUCHY, KATIA HUEMER, ALEX PACHÓN – decided to grant the awards to the films:

BEST FILM 2021:

BEN by Teresa Sala, Ilaria Vergani Bassi, Gabriel Beddoes, Mattia Parisotto | Italy | 2019 | 8’22“

watch on vimeo: https://vimeo.com/412355108 (trailer)

BEN opens his eyes in the humid morning of a midseason. Ben does not know the codes of language, much less those of the body. Overwhelmed with moving images – human gestures and mechanical motions in the urban chaos – Ben tries to assimilate and imitate what he sees.

„The starting point was the famous film by Dziga Vertov „The man with the camera“ (1929), a 20th century manifesto, on which we asked ourselves to develop a viable means of communication, using different languages explorable in the film medium. The answer was the attempt to draft a modern-day citizen manifesto, based on a subtle dialogue with the most intimate part of the viewer“. (director statement)

The audience of the festival gave its voice too!
The spectators could choose their favorite film from all the films presented by the festival (50), including those of the two ‚partner festivals‘ (pool – Berlin and Fiver – Madrid) and the ’special guest films‘, which are not part of the competition judged by the jury.
We are glad to announce the most favourite film of the festival’s audience:
